In celebration of National Poetry Month, this blog highlights a collaboration between me and my students. Using photos from my visit to Niagara Falls as inspiration, they created original poems reflecting the beauty and power of one of nature’s most remarkable wonders. This short collection celebrates the connection between photography, imagination, and the creative voices of young poets—showing how art can carry us across distance, time, and space.
Niagara Falls by LaCarley Quin
The water's wave goes up so high,
it feels like I'm in a plane up high.
The water swishes from left to right.
The steam comes up very high.
I really love .how the water crawls,
it feels like I'm in Niagara Falls.

The River by Janzell Williams
The water flows smoothly
The water is very clean.
The blue, crystal clear water
falls.
The smoke steady rises.
The waves of the beautiful river.
The sun of New York City hits the waves of Niagara Falls.

Water Splash by Braxton Butler
Niagara Falls is a place where you can feel the breeze.
You can listen to the water shake and wach the water splash down.
Steam comes up.
It's freezing.
There are ice chips.
Big waves coming down when the water hits the ground.

Beautiful Beast by LeAnna Gordon
Niagara Falls
a place to see.
Flowing into
an emerald sea.
Sparkling waters
down below.
This is called Lake
Ontario.
One of the seven wonders.
A natural marvel.
Birds fly overtop.
The rocks around it--
marble.
Thundery sounds
over 170 feet.
When it comes to Niagara,
no waterfall can compete.
