Our students are currently writing original fiction for submission to the Scholastic Storyworks Fiction Writing Contest. This experience encourages them to imagine bold plots, develop characters, and find their unique writing voice. Below is a short excerpt from Madyson Jackson's draft about two friends who take on the day together, discovering that even ordinary mornings can hold adventure:
"The only hard part about this schedule of mine is having to get my best friend out of bed which is like moving a rock. After some pushing, shoving, poking and pinching, La-quetta finally got up and went to the cafeteria with me. They were serving many things like croissant sandwiches, bacon, eggs, grits, salmon rolls, waffles, and yes... those cursed pancakes."
As students continue drafting and revising, they are building confidence and sharpening their storytelling skills as they prepare their final submissions for the March 2026 deadline. We are proud of their creativity and excited to support them through this process.
